What Are California’s Pay Transparency and Pay Scale Posting Requirements?

California has enacted a multi-layered pay transparency framework that governs job postings, employee requests, and annual pay data reporting. Recent amendments effective January 1, 2026 have tightened compliance requirements.

Employers with 15 or more employees are required to include the pay scale for any position in all job postings, whether posted internally, on company websites, or through third-party platforms. Employers must also provide existing employees with the pay range for their current position upon request.
