California employers are now subject to mandatory annual notice obligations under the Workplace Know Your Rights Act (Senate Bill 294), signed into law in October 2025.

What the law requires:

On or before February 1, 2026, and annually thereafter, employers must provide a stand-alone written notice to each current employee — and to each new employee upon hire — regarding specified workers’ rights. The notice may be delivered by personal service, email, or text message, so long as receipt can reasonably be expected within one business day.

The notice must cover:

  • Workers’ compensation benefits and contact information for the Division of Workers’ Compensation
  • Employee rights regarding immigration agency inspections and protections against unfair immigration-related practices
  • The right to organize a union and engage in concerted activity without retaliation
  • Constitutional rights when interacting with law enforcement at the workplace, including Fourth and Fifth Amendment protections
